Grevillea "Old Gold" has very attractive prickly leaves with new growth being yellow/gold in colour. The flowers are gold with apricot styles. A very useful carpeting plant that resists even heavy frosts. Old Gold can flower throughout the year which is great for the honeyeaters that come for the nectar. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is with this grevillea it is always a feature because of the unusual foliage and flowers.
A lovely addition to a cottage garden being a foliage feature ground cover that would help suppress the weeds, retaining walls, on a bank, is just a few reasons to grow this versatile plant.
Planting: Cultivate soil before planting. Dig hole twice the width of the container. Remove plant from container and place into the hole so that soil level is the same as the surrounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in even if the soil is moist.
Care: Always ensure regular watering is provided for your new plants. The plants may need watering for around 12 weeks or until they are established depending on time of year and weather conditions once planted.
Good mulching will assist to reduce weeds and maintain moisture levels. Maintain fresh growth, shape and promote dense habit by pruning after main flowering time. Feed in early Spring with a low phosphorus fertiliser.
