Camellia Japonica "Elegans Champagne" has a charming large white double blooms with a soft outer ruffle and pale yellow centred petaloids.
Elegans champagne is also drought tolerant once established and can be placed in either full or part shade. These camellias prefer slightly acidic conditions therefore avoid adding lime.
As with other camellia's these can be potted, used as scattered plants or trained for a topiary or espaliered display. A charming way of using the flowers is placing them in a water bowl or birdbath.
Planting: Cultivate soil before planting. Dig hole twice the width of the container. Remove plant from container and place into the hole so that soil level is the same as the surrounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in even if the soil is moist.
Care: Always ensure regular watering is provided for your new plants. The plants may need watering for around 12 weeks or until they are established depending on time of year and weather conditions once planted.
Good mulching will assist to reduce weeds and maintain moisture levels. Maintain fresh growth, shape and promote dense habit by pruning after main flowering time. Feed in early Spring with a good Camellia food fertiliser.
