Camellia x Williamsii "Debbie" One of our favorites, Debbie is a medium size, upright growth shrub. The dark green, glossy foliage is a lovely back drop for the semi double to full anemone shaped flowers which are deep rosy pink in colour. The flowering display is beautiful with masses of flowers appearing during winter, great way to brighten up the garden during this time.
Camellias are adaptable but do best in slightly acid, humus rich fertile, well drained soil. Protect from hot, drying winds. Apply adequate moisture and mulch in summer.
Debbie is perfect in a decorative pot, it's upright growth makes a lovely screen or informal hedge, used as scattered plants or trained for a topiary or espaliered display. A charming way of using the flowers is placing them in a water bowl or birdbath.
Planting: Cultivate soil before planting. Dig hole twice the width of the container. Remove plant from container and place into the hole so that soil level is the same as the surrounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in even if the soil is moist.
Care: Always ensure regular watering is provided for your new plants. The plants may need watering for around 12 weeks or until they are established depending on time of year and weather conditions once planted.
Good mulching will assist to reduce weeds and maintain moisture levels. Maintain fresh growth, shape and promote dense habit by pruning after main flowering time. Feed in early Spring with a low phosphorus fertiliser.
Using tubestock is a great advantage for planting in your garden as they will establish quickly with the appropriate care.
